Our Story Beginning in 1975, The Button Family built a dairy set-up using timber grown on the land, and an old sawmill to mill the lumber. Since that time, the farm has been used to produce feed for cattle and milk for the wholesale market as well as merchandising cattle. As the family has grown, the farm has become more diverse. Hay and silage are grown for sale. Dairy and beef cattle are raised and marketed. Along the way, a new sawmill has replaced the old one.

Stonington Vineyards, a founding member of the Connecticut Wine Trail, is best known for its barrel fermented Chardonnays and its proprietory blends Seaport White and Triad Rose. Stonington Vineyards was established by Nick and Happy Smith in 1987, when purchasing 58 acres in the Stonington Uplands on which wine grapes had been planted earlier in the decade. Saltwater Farm Vineyard is set on more than 100 panoramic acres - 15 of which are planted with six varieties of grapes, and bordered by tidal marshes, a cove and vistas of Long Island Sound, near the historic New England coastal village of Stonington, Connecticut. The centerpiece of the bucolic property, which has a small private airport dating to the late 1930s, is a World War II - vintage hangar, designed by the late architect John W. Lincoln, a colleague of Walter Gropius. The hangar, opening onto terraces and the vineyard, has been preserved and converted into a winery. The seamlessly renovated building showcases a vaulting roof, silvery milled aluminum exterior, the original interior wood sheathing and, dominating the airy room and gathering places, handsome and massive timber trusses.

Warmed by the Southern California sun and cooled by ocean breezes, River Ridge offers championship courses with country club quality at public prices. Originally designed by Billy Bell Jr. in the mid-1980s, the Vineyard Course has gone through several redesigns providing ocean and panoramic views of Oxnard and Ventura County. This Ventura County golf course is renowned for its wide-open fairways, low lying roughs, superb bent/poa annua greens and five lakes spanning the back nine holes. It is highlighted by the par-three 18th "Island" hole measuring from 122 yards to 191 yards and usually playing into the wind. The Victoria Lakes course opened August 22nd, 2008 and provides a great test of Ventura County golf. The greens are bent/poa annua grass and the fairways are Greg Norman (GNI) hybrid bermuda. The Norwich Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf course facility located in Norwich, Connecticut. Featuring a challenging 6,228 yard design constructed over undulating terrain playing to a par of 71 from the longest tees. The course rating is 70.0 and has a slope rating of 131 on Rye grass fairways. Designed by Architects Tull & Tull, the Norwich golf course opened in 1926. Mike Svab, a PGA Member, manages the course as the Golf Professional.

The Pachaug River was a major fishing ground for the Mohegan Indians. At low water the stone weirs, constructed by the Indians at angles from the river banks, are still visible. These weirs directed water flow as well as eels, shad, and other fish toward the center of the stream where the Indians placed baskets to trap them. Until blocked up by a dam, constructed in 1828 at Greenville, shad passed up the Quinebaug River in great numbers. In pioneer times, the gristmill and sawmill were among the first requisites of a community. In 1711, surveyor Stephen Gates was granted fourteen acres of land within the limits of the present state park for the purpose of constructing mills. He erected a sawmill and cornmill at the natural falls (now underwater) on the Pachaug River for the convenience of the inhabitants. In 1818, Elizah Abel purchased this mill privilege and erected a woolen mill at the site.

The center offers engaging experiences for all ages, from life-size walk-through dioramas that transport visitors into the past, to changing exhibits and live performances of contemporary arts and cultures. Extensive interactive exhibits depict 18,000 years of Native and natural history, while two libraries, including one for children, offer a diverse selection of materials on the histories and cultures of all Native peoples of the United States and Canada.

About Blue Slope Country Museum, Inc.is dedicated to preserving historical farming & country-life artifacts, located on a 380 acre 4th generation working New England dairy farm. Description Blue Slope Farm has a variety of different on the farm products that we produce. Our main product is milk, which we send to Cabot-Agrimark to be made into butter (on Sundays) and Guidas milk. We also have other products that are produced on the farm, including: Maple Syrup and different grades as well. We have increased the amount of taps that we have set out in our trees during the season since we started in 2006. Along with our dairy cows that give us milk, we also have a variety of meat products that we sell at local stores and at the New Haven farmers market. If you wish, you can call ahead and place an order for meat which you can pick up directly at the farm. Free Range Veal, Beef, Chevon, and now Pork are available, we also offer compost bulk or bagged.

This lighthouse was once the beacon for the many vessels approaching Stonington's harbor from Long Island Sound. The original 30-foot stone tower, which was built on the Point in 1823, supported a lantern containing ten oil lamps and parabolic reflectors. Its beacon was visible 12 miles at sea. During the next few years, however, storms and shore erosion took their toll on the exposed site. In 1840 the structure was dismantled and the materials used to build a new tower and keeper's dwelling on the present site. The light remained active until 1889 when a beacon was installed on the outer end of a new breakwater protecting the harbor entrance. Stonington's lighthouse became the museum of the Historical Society in 1927. Now six rooms of exhibits testify to the rich and varied history of this coastal region through exhibits depicting the lives of Stonington's fishermen and farmers...
