Our early warning system is also a great bug eater! Guinea fowl are know for raising a ruckus when something unfamiliar comes around. From guest to hawks they get all in a tizzy and make quite a racket. Thus calling the alarm to the hens to run for shelter! Quite hand to have around! Unlike the chickens they don"t generally tear apart the gardens scratching for bugs, but simply just walk around pecking here and there! So if ticks and the like are a problem in your yard I recommend this funny looking fowl, and as a added bonus they will squawk the alarm when you have visitors!
Amazing it comes each and every year but the first snow is just so magical!
We got a dusting to covert the ground and add some icing on the leaves, Mother Nature is just so Beautiful!
This makes me think of the holidays to come and the magic of the season!
Today as I am sure you all know is the day the government has set aside to thank those who serve or have served our United States of American. Each and every person man or women, young or old, who gave of them selves so you would have the right today to read this and so much more.
I say... pay it forward and each and every day this year when you wake up place your hand over your heart and say the pledge, blow a kiss to the heavens and give thanks to those who served and are at home with the lord. Be kind to others, and if you see a military person, simply say thank you!
Its all about our freedom, and the freedoms we have yet to enjoy!
Mystic was just glorious yesterday. I could not help but notice as I drove along river rd how beautiful the roses were, in NOV! In fact I was wishing I had left earlier so I could have taken some pictures! I had lunch at the S&P Oyster House with a group of Innkeepers from Canada, and fellow business folks from Mystic. My neighbor Erica was there as well and we shared a bit about or B&B's and what draws people to the area. Lunch was amazing and I learned some information about Mystic I did not know!
Dinner was at The DPI a favorite of mine, and did you know that during resturant week you could dine there to include a glass of wine for $20 per.
person! It was a great say and I look forward to getting together with some of the folks I meet....Road trip to Canada anyone?
This Autumn has been delightful and it promises to continue! The leaves are such an amazing color! Walking outside is a real treat, that is if you like the sound they make when you shuffle through them! Its a favorite of mine! Near-by lakes make a good choice for a walk and we are surrounded by them! After a good walk to come in and sit by the fire, g
Leaves like the ones in the picture at Lake Hayward are falling fast! And the smell of them are intoxicating! I bet Yankee Candle even has that scent bottled! I love everything about them, except raking them! The smell, the sound they make when you tramp through them, watching them twirl to the ground, their colors, their shades, everything.
As a gardener I have seen first hand what leaves left in the garden can do. They provide homes for the varmints who love to nest in them. While living there they are busy eating the roots of your plants, yummy!
So it is important to remove all leaves from around your plants. When the ground becomes frozen, surround the base of your tender perennials with composted cow manure. Most home improvement stores have huge clearance sales about now, so pick so up!
PS I use to rake leaves for the summer people at Lake Hayward for some extra money, I HATED the job!
Boo! Today is the only day were we witches can don our hats and strut our stuff and dare you to call us witchy! I love the looks I have gotten as I go about my normal day in my favorite hat! In fact once in Home Depot a man came up to me and said...this is proably the oly time I can get away with saying your a "real witch". I should have spun around and placed a spell on him!
So enjoy the day, be silly, and go "trick or Treating" no matter your age!
